Thai Dance Class at Wat Arun

Summary: This was a fun little activity to do to spend a couple hours dressing up and learning a couple Thai dances. They had a little snack and did my hair and decked me out in an outfit and jewelry. It was just me for the class, so it was cool to have my little one on one private dance class. The dances are very basic but takes a surprising amount of coordination. Kam was very patient with me and very kind.

Summary: I was initially upset as I waited 15 mins as the teacher was late, but when she arrived she made the session so incredibly fun it was worth the wait. She is very knowledgeable on dance

Summary: What a beautiful experience! Upon arrival we had some traditional snacks and tea. Then we were dressed in traditional Thai dance attire, as well as jewelry and our hair-styled. The dances were traditional, fun, and easy to follow! The teacher was wonderful. She had a beautiful energy and made the class really special!

Summary: This class felt very authentic. We began by learning basic Thai customs, types of dance and the history of Thai folk dance. I loved that the costumes were those worn by dancers in central Thailand and not flashy and disingenuous. Some of the dances were challenging, but we had excellent guidance to make it an experience to remember.

Summary: Started out a little awkward. They showed us to a kind of strange, but very clean and air-conditioned room up a very steep staircase. They dressed us in costumes that were not the high end items available down stairs. Once the teacher (her name translates to Gift - and she was!) got there, the tone of the class totally changed. The teacher spoke English fluently, and was very knowledgeable - she was a history professor. Upbeat, fun, encouraging, she taught us about Thai culture, customs, and dance, all in 2 hours. We learned 3 dances, some basic movements, differences in how vow and show respect to different people. She also taught us some basic Thai vocabulary. Highly recommended!

Summary: This was a great cultural experience, our instructor was very knowledgeable in the history of thailand and taught us many things, she was also able to speak many languages very well. When we arrived we were put into traditional clothing and hair, we then learned about the culture and and basic movements which we then put into dance. We were able to take many photos and videos and given snacks!

Summary: This was my favorite activity in our week in Bangkok. My husband and teen daughter reluctantly came with me, but ended up having a lot of fun! We were dressed in authentic Ayutthaya costume, and they were able to adjust sizes to accommodate heavier adults which I had been worried about. It was a great way to learn about the cultures of various regions of Thailand and understand how the clothing and dance of each was reflecting the attitudes of each region. The dance steps were simplified for those who needed just the basics, and she added in levels of complexity for me so that we all had a great session together.

Summary: What a brilliant lesson, the dance instructor was so sweet she even put on our customs for us. She was very knowledgeable and we all had so much fun.

Summary: The teacher is very attentive in teaching. Before class, he will help students change into Thai clothes and prepare water and Thai snacks. I was originally worried that I would not be able to understand what I was teaching when the whole thing was taught in English. I didn’t expect that the teacher knew Chinese. When he explained difficult vocabulary, he would explain it in Chinese, which I thought was very considerate. The origin and history of dance will be explained in the first part of the class, and dance teaching will begin in the second part. During the study, the teacher will also carefully explain the origin of the postures and provide individual guidance. During the class, the teacher will also carefully check whether the students' clothes are uncomfortable or loose. He thoughtfully helped us adjust; he selected three songs of different styles throughout the process and led us in teaching. I think it’s a great experience! This is a cultural course that I would like to learn again during my next trip.

Summary: What a wonderful day! Thank you, Jannie, for an amazing time, learning both the dances and about the Thai culture. Expect to laugh and have fun! I recommend the morning class and visiting Wat Arun before the heat and crowds arrive. I will definitely come back for more lessons. Jannie has the most reasonable and affordable prices in town!
